Board of Directors
Michael Kenigsberg, was invited to take on the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors for the PKD Foundation of Canada shortly after the charity was registered nationally in 2010. He has been raising funds for PKD research for over a decade and prior to his role as Chairman consulted with the board on the direction of the charity. Michael is proud to work with his exceptional fellow board members and the committed volunteers and staff who make the PKD Foundation of Canada function. As Chairman, Michael hopes his expertise will help the organisation expand its Canadian footprint increasing PKD awareness and funding to Canadian PKD researchers.
Michael has earned a Bachelor of Science degree from York University and subsequently a Masters of Science from the University of Western Ontario. He has conducted considerable research related to climate and water fluctuations in the Canadian North and West. He has reported to and consults with government agencies and has presented his research at major conferences throughout North America and in Europe. Michael understands the value of research and looks forward to continuing the strong record of the PKD Foundation of Canada of funding Canadian PKD research. Michael is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration at the Richard Ivey School of Business in London Ontario.
Doug Robertson held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1994 to 2011. He is presently the Secretary for the PKD Foundation of Canada. Doug resides in Richmond Hill, Ontario with his wife Jan and is a founding member of the PKD Foundation of Canada since 1994. Doug’s involvement with PKD began as a result of Jan having PKD. Jan has had two liver transplants and will need a kidney at some point, as a result of PKD. Doug and Jan have two adult children, Megan and Jeff who both work in the not for profit / charitable industry.
Doug is in senior sales management within the Food Industry, presently working for an Ontario Food Broker, representing a number of food brands from various manufacturers. He has been in the food business for more than 30 years and still enjoys meeting and working with new people everyday.
Doug looks forward to the continued growth of the PKD Foundation of Canada and welcomes all new volunteer members to participate with our Executive Director to help us on our journey to find a cure for PKD.
Eva Higgison has been the Treasurer for the PKD Foundation of Canada since July of 2009, but worked closely with the Foundation as a Toronto Chapter volunteer for a year prior to taking on this role. She has over 8 years of experience as a Bookkeeper in multiple organizations of various sizes and financial activity. Eva’s education consists of first and second CGA levels completed at Seneca College. She is currently finishing the third level on a part-time basis while working full time.
Eva loves the outdoors and is committed to do her part in conserving it by reducing, reusing and recycling. Her love of the outdoors also ties in with her belief that it is necessary as individuals to contribute to their communities by volunteering.
Eva has seen the PKD Foundation of Canada grow and improve in both processes and membership over the last few years and looks forward to assisting the PKD Foundation of Canada in reaching new milestones in the coming years.
Michael Campbell joined the Board of Directors in January 2012. He has worked in the University Health Network Bioethics Program as a Senior Fellow in Organ Donation and Transplantation Ethics since July, 2010. Michael is excited to work with the Board and contribute to the not-for-profit sector.
Michael completed a Master of Health Science degree and a Bioethics Fellowship at the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics. His primary research interests include ethical issues in the selection of living organ donors and the allocation of organs from anonymous living donors. Michael hopes to use his experience to help further the Board’s vision for the PKD Foundation of Canada.
Michael has been active in the PKD Community for many years and through this has gained an understanding of the personal effects of PKD.
Michael lives in Etobicoke, Ontario with his wife Natasha and daughter Ava.
