Experience of People with ADPKD with Ketogenic Diets: Feasibility and Effects | Webinar Video
This webinar was held live on October 29, 2020.
Recently, the Weimbs laboratory (UC Santa Barbara) has published the first evidence that induction of ketosis via ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting ameliorates disease progression in animal models of PKD. Due to their common use for weight control or for other health benefits, ADPKD patients may already have experimented with ketogenic dietary interventions. This case series study was designed to gain first insights about possible effects and the feasibility of ketogenic diets for ADPKD patients.
Sebastian Strubl, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and Neuroscience Research Institute from the University of California Santa Barbara, presented his preliminary findings of his study on ADPKD and ketogenic diets, and took questions afterwards.
This webinar gave PKD patients and their loved ones the opportunity to learn about the latest PKD research, as well as ask questions of Dr. Strubl.
About the Speaker
Dr. Sebastian Strubl (MD) is a physician scientist from Germany. He graduated as M.D. at the University of Cologne, Germany, in 2017 where he gained clinical experience as resident physician from June 2018 to January 2019. He received his Doctoral degree (Dr. med) from the Department of Biochemistry of the University Giessen, Germany, in 2019. Dr. Strubl is currently doing research as postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara. As part of Prof. Weimbs´ Laboratory he is investigating the impact of crystal deposition on underlying signaling mechanisms of ADPKD and is furthermore leading a retrospective clinical trial about ketogenic dietary interventions in this disease.
