Thanks to the generous support of donors, the PKD Foundation of Canada has funded the publication of new research led by Dr. Marie Trudel, making this important work publicly accessible to clinicians, researchers, patients, and families affected by autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).

In this live educational webinar, Dr. Trudel will share findings from her recent study exploring a potassium channel in kidney cells called KCa3.1. This channel plays a role in moving salt and water into kidney cysts. Because cyst growth depends on fluid buildup, her team investigated whether blocking this channel could help slow disease progression.

The study found that:

  • KCa3.1 levels are increased in ADPKD kidneys
  • Activating this channel increased cyst growth
  • Blocking it slowed cyst growth in PKD mouse models

These findings identify KCa3.1 as a promising potential treatment target and provide a strong scientific foundation for future research.

This webinar is open to donors, patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in the future of PKD research. Join us to learn how donor support is advancing science and helping move us closer to better treatments for ADPKD. Register today to attend live and be part of the conversation.
