If you’re waiting for a kidney transplant, there’s something many people aren’t prepared for.
At some point, you may get a call – and be asked to decide, very quickly, whether to accept a kidney.
Sometimes, that offer is for what’s called an “extended criteria” or “exceptional distribution” kidney.
And in that moment, the questions can come fast:
- What do we actually know about this kidney?
- If I say no, does it affect my place on the list?
- How long until another offer comes?
- What if I’m already years into dialysis – does that change the decision?
- If there’s a risk of infections like hepatitis C or CMV, what does treatment really look like?
- Am I being given all the information… or just enough to decide quickly?
For many patients, it can feel like being asked to make a life-altering decision in a vacuum.
This webinar is about changing that.
Join nephrologist Dr. Christine Ribic and a panel of transplant recipients as they walk through how these kidneys are evaluated, how decisions are made, and what patients wish they had known before they got the call.
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your options – and the confidence to ask the questions that matter to you.
Presented in partnership with the Transplant Ambassador Program (TAP), a Canadian organization dedicated to supporting patients and families through education and peer connection in transplant and organ donation.
