Awareness Events
Montreal has contributed to PKD awareness through creative community engagement, including PKD Awareness Day celebrations, school Dress Down Days, and transplant recipient meet-and-greets. These activities raise the profile of PKD and organ donation in schools, healthcare settings, and the broader public. Several municipalities in Quebec have recognized PKD Awareness Day on September 4 each year, and in April 2025 transplant recipients shared their stories to inspire others. These events personalize PKD, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of early diagnosis, community support, and ongoing research. Awareness events complement fundraising and education efforts by ensuring PKD is seen, heard, and recognized.

PKD Awareness Day
Since 2014, Health Canada has officially recognized September 4 as National PKD Awareness Day, and over 35 communities across the country helped mark the day last year through proclamations and flag raisings. The PKD Foundation of Canada, as the only national organization solely dedicated to fighting PKD, aims to ease the journey for PKD warriors and caregivers, providing community, connection and accurate information, and funding research to generate hope. By reaching out to local municipalities for proclamations, flag-raisings and landmark lightings, we work to make others aware of the needs of those affected by PKD.
